A project

You have now read and learned a lot of things about the USA. Your task is now to present a topic on the US. Projects to choose in between:

  • A famous sportsman and the sport
  • Swedish and American traditions - read the text on p. 134-139 in your Textbook. Present the text to the class and find similarities and differences to Swedish traditions.
  • Imagine a trip through the USA. Tell the class about your trip.
  • The first people of North America. Use the questions on p. 121 in your Workbook to help you out.
  • Slavery and the American Civil War
  • American animals and nature
  • High Horses Courting (ask Petra for worksheets)
  • American food
  • The oceans around the United States
  • Alaska
  • Your own suggestion - talk to me
Looking forward to hearing you!

An American e-pal

You have read and heard about American teenagers. Now it's time for you to get in touch with a teenager from the States. You will be given a name and an e-mail address. Your task is to e-mail this person and tell him or her a little about yourself and your life here. Your e-pal will reply to your e-mail. Here are suggestions to what you can write and ask about:
  • your name and age
  • where and how you live (Varberg, area, house)
  • your school, subjects and the school system
  • your interests and your spare time
  • your family
Good luck!

Sports and history

Baseball and basketball; now you know something about those sports. Sports can of course have to do with history - the same goes for the people who live in a country. Who were the first people in the US and who lives there now? Read and listen to the text The First People and A mix of people on p 126-129 in your textbook.

Teenage life

Long time no write!

You've made aquaintance with the teenagers Karolina and Christopher and by now you've hopefully learned some new words. One part of learning English in school, is to learn and understand about English speaking countries and the people who live in those countries. It is also important that you compare your own life situation to theirs. In pairs (boy-girl), I want you to compare Karolina's and Christopher's lives. Use the following questions:

  • Describe Karolina's and Christopher's families.
  • Compare Karolina's and Christopher's homes.
  • What does Karolina like to do in her spare time?
  • What does Christopher like to do in his spare time?
  • What are the differences between their ordinary school days?
  • What differences do you find between their schools?
  • Compare your life to Karolina's and Christopher's. What differences and similarities are there?

Los Angeles

Los Angeles - the City of Angels

Los Angeles

Even though there is more to the city of Los Angeles than Hollywood, the film industry is what often comes to our minds. In your textbook, you'll find some informative texts about some famous Americans, some of them Hollywood stars. After having read the text together in class, studying the vocabulary (homework for Wednesday) and working with exercise 10, your job is to...

Find out facts about another famous American and summarize the facts in your own words. Be prepared to tell a friend about your actor. Have a picture at hand in case someone isn't familiar with your actor/politician/sportsman/author/singer... You should be prepared for Thursday.

Enjoy your weekend!
